The Pleasure Trials Opens at Dramashop
Sarah Saltwick's play about a new female libido enhancement drug hits the Erie stage
PREMIERING FRIDAY, MAR. 24
The upcoming production of Sarah Saltwick's The Pleasure Trials at Dramashop will be one you won't likely forget. This darkly comic play, directed by multi-talented Britty Lea, promises to be thought-provoking and intellectually stimulating.
The play tells the story of a group of women who are recruited for a scientific study on pleasure, testing out a female libido enhancement drug and beginning an emotional journey. As they navigate the trials and tribulations of the study, they are forced to confront their own desires, fears, and insecurities, leading to a powerful exploration of identity, sexuality, and agency.
The cast, which includes some of the best talent from Erie's thriving theater community, consists of Char Newport, Adele Crotty, Alycia Olivar, and Rosie Pregler Hitt. The play's complex characters and emotionally-charged scenes provide ample opportunity for the actors to showcase their range and talent. As part of Dramashop's staged reading series, the actors will have their scripts, bringing the story to life with fewer rehearsals and less memorization, though they're every bit as lively as you'd expect from cutting-edge theater.
Premiering at the Vortex Theatre in her hometown of Austin, Texas, Saltwick's play has turned heads and made audiences think about the odd intersection of sexuality and science. With Dramashop's intimate performance space, audiences will feel fully immersed in the world of the play, experiencing every twist and turn alongside the characters.
