Record 259 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in a Single Day
1,238 new cases this week, as totals swell to year-high numbers
In the last week, there have been 1,238 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Erie County According to the PA Department of Health, with 911 new cases reported the previous week, 867 the week prior, and 894 the week before that.
The number of cumulative cases in Erie County is now 31,329. The PA Health Department has the total number of COVID-19 deaths at 507 (up 12 from last week), while the Erie County Department of Health lists a total of 556 (up 14, with more recent data).
Today, the Erie County Department of Health announced that there were 259 new cases of COVID-19 reported in a 24-hour period. For two days in a row now, we have seen the highest single-day total we have seen since Dec. 12, 2020. Yesterday, there were 254 cases reported.
As of now, there are 140,518 Erie County residents who have been fully vaccinated, with 15,434 having received their first dose, and 29,407 who have received a booster shot.
Over the last seven days, there has been an average of nearly 177 cases per day (a per-day increase of more than 46).
