Photo Gallery: George Floyd Protest
Photos by Dave Schreoder of Erie May 30, 2020
On Saturday, May 30, a large group gathered at Perry Square for a peaceful protest for George Floyd.
On Monday, May 25, Floyd was killed while in police custody. A video of the incident rapidly recirculated around the world, with many U.S. cities holding similar protests the following Saturday.
After the main protest, which ran from 6 to 9 p.m., events escalated. Police were called in and proceeded to release tear gas from city hall onto the protesters, who began shooting fireworks directed at the police.
A large section of downtown Erie was closed off, while most of the crowd dissipated by midnight.
