Making 'Light' of It: Light Fest 2019
Unique experiences and food that centers around the themes of illumination, inspiration, and imagination
Sunday, Aug. 4
The writer of this piece might be a bit biased (speaking of her hometown as she is), but there is something decidedly whimsical about Edinboro, Pa.
That whimsy must be due in part to the efforts of Jessica Strand, the owner of The Light in the Woods, a boutique gift shop on the grounds of the family-run recreation destination Nick's Place.
Strand has grown her shop to include Light Fest, a whole festival centered around the ideas of illumination, inspiration, and imagination — ideas which imbue all the unique, handmade gifts and art that populate the store.
As always, this year's Light Fest is family-friendly, and it includes vendors and artisans (think jewelry, fashion, home decor and more), free classes — including power yoga, mystical drumming and meditation — and food available for purchase, via the kitchen at Nick's Place. In addition, the medium Christina Iesue will be on hand to connect visitors with the spiritual beyond.
Light Fest 2019 runs rain or shine (tents cover the outdoor portion). Guests can enter into raffles for artisan-donated prizes and Strand continues to make this an affordable event for the entire family. — Cara Suppa
