Today, the YMCA of Greater Erie and supporters of the Highmark QUAD Games joined together for the announcement of their new season.
"We appreciate today's enthusiastic start to a new Highmark QUAD season and invite the community to get involved in this fun and healthy program," said Nina Ferraro, Lead Community Affairs Analyst with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield/Allegheny Health Network. "The four active sports of the Highmark QUAD Games are not only a great way to promote healthy lifestyles and a love of lifelong sports, but the camaraderie and team building is invaluable," she continued. "Three decades of Highmark QUAD success has shown that employees who might otherwise drift home to sit on the couch after work can instead be found meeting at the Y pool for a swimming skills clinic or taking a pre-QUAD bike ride."
Since the Highmark QUAD Games began in 1983, thousands of locals have used it as a year-long fitness program with more than 400 participants expected to kick off the Games this year with the 100-yard swim at Edinboro University's McComb Fieldhouse on April 22.
A relocation in venue for the run event in September from North East to Waterford is just one of the event changes planned for this event series according to Kelly Latimer, Highmark QUAD Games Coordinator. Additionally, each of the events will partner with a local business to offer a post-race celebration.
"We are excited to be partnering with local restaurants to offer all Highmark QUAD participants more than just a race! Our newest sponsors, the Waterford Hotel and Edinboro Hotel will be offering food and drink at the conclusion of each event. The fun doesn't have to end when you cross the finish line!" said Ferraro.
Furthermore, an enhanced partnership with Wilderness Lodge, the host venue for the ski/snowshoe event, adds the Wildcat Dash, a premier youth cross country ski event, to the line-up.
After the ski/snowshoe event, participants will be treated to live music and food and drink specials.
Along with crowning the top male and female finisher as the Fastest in Erie County, cash prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers, at each event.
Early bird registration is open at highmarkquad.org for $25/event or $55 for the QUAD season for registrations received by February 28.
The Highmark QUAD Kids offers shorter distances for kids and is $10/event or $25 for the season.
