Highest Ever Number of COVID-19 Cases Reported This Week in Erie County
2,970 new cases this week including five days with all-time high numbers
In the last week, there have been 2,970 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Erie County According to the PA Department of Health, a skyrocket from last week with 1,080 new cases reported the previous week, with 774 the week prior, and 1,320 the week before that.
Over the last seven days, there has been an average of nearly 424 cases per day (a per-day decrease of more than 313 over last week). On average, every single day this week saw more new cases than any other day since the pandemic began.
On Friday, Dec. 31 – New Year's Eve – there were 626 new cases of COVID-19 reported, marking it by far the highest number of new cases reported in a single day.
New Year's was no exception, however, with Dec. 30, Dec. 3, and Dec. 4 all eclipsing Dec. 1's previous total of 342 – at the time the highest single-day total.
The number of cumulative cases in Erie County is now 43,747, according to both the state and county Department of Health. The PA Health Department has the total number of COVID-19 deaths at 637, with 12 occurring this week. The Erie County Department of Health lists a total of 659 deaths, with 21 occurring this week.
As of now, there are 149,694 Erie County residents who have been fully vaccinated (up 873 from last week), with 23,784 having received their first dose (up 562), and 61,879 who have received a booster shot (up 2,219).

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 15,731 positive cases (up 1,075 since last week), with 262 deaths (up four from last week).
McKean County has 6,427 total positive cases (up 202) and 115 deaths (up two).
Venango County has 9,138 total positive cases (up 312) and 202 deaths (up two).
Warren County has 5,757 total positive cases (up 172), and 181 deaths (up two).
