Erie County Update: June 4, 2020
13 new cases reported while nearby PA counties see small changes
Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper reported 13 new positive cases of COVID-19 today. This brings our cumulative total to 327 positive cases, with 5,942 negatives (332 over the past two days). So far, there have been 218 recovered cases – with 28 recoveries reported today – for a total of 103 current active cases. So far, there have been six deaths of Erie County residents reported due to COVID-19, though the state currently is reporting five.
Erie County's cumulative positive case total has more than doubled since May 20. By our math, there have been 144 new cases reported over the last 14 days, for a ratio of nearly 52 cases per 100,000 people in the last 14 days (down by one case per 100,000 from yesterday). One of the state's thresholds for returning to the Red phase – in addition to several other factors – is a new case count of over 50 per 100,000.
In Pennsylvania, there were 537 additional positive cases reported today, for a total of 73,942 total cases. So far, there have been 5,817 deaths statewide, with 75 occurring since yesterday. 416,942 patients have tested negative to date, with 8,673 tests since the previous day. So far, 69% of PA's positive cases have recovered (up one percent since yesterday).
Erie County's negative tests account for 1.4% of Pennsylvania's, while its population accounts for 2.15%. Since yesterday, Erie County's new cases have accounted for 2.42% of Pennsylvania's (a 0.46% increase)
Erie County's positive cases account for 0.44% of the state's cumulative cases (for a 0.02% increase).
There were minor changes in some of our nearby counties. All increases are over a period of two days.
Crawford County is at 30 positive cases (up one), with still no deaths being reported. McKean County has 13 cases (up one), one death, having 692 negatives. Venango County now has 10 positive cases (up one) and 622 negatives. Warren County now has five cases and 422 negatives.
Ashtabula County has a total of 347 positive cases (up seven), with 64 hospitalized (also up seven), and 38 deaths (up three). Chautauqua County reported seven new cases, for a cumulative total of 97 positive cases and six deaths (two more since last report).
