Erie County Sees Week of 37 Deaths and 677 New COVID-19 Cases
99 new positive cases and three deaths reported today
On Wednesday, Feb. 3, the office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper reported 99 new positive COVID-19 cases as well as three new deaths. This brings our cumulative total to 15,783 reported positive cases.
There have 37 deaths in the last week, for a total of 402 Erie County deaths reported through the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS).
On Jan. 28, a total of 27 deaths were reported due to a lag in the NEDSS database. These deaths occurred between Jan. 3 and Jan. 18. The age range for these deaths was between 53 and 94. Two of these deaths were from Albion State Correctional Institution, while eight were identified as residents of long-term care facilities.
According to the county, there have been 677 new positive cases in the past week (681 last week and 816 the week prior), with an average of more nearly 97 cases being reported each day. Last week was the first time the weekly average (from Wednesday to Wednesday) has dipped below 100 cases per day since the second week of November.
There have been 57,041 negative tests in total, with 1,279 recorded this week, 1,172 the previous week, and 3,228 the week prior.
According to the Erie County Department of Health, there are 44 people hospitalized from COVID-19 (down 6 from last week) with seven on ventilators (down three).
Erie County's cumulative case total has more than doubled in just under eight weeks (since Dec. 10). The number of deaths has more than doubled in less than seven weeks. (since Dec. 18).
Of the total cases, 52% are female and 48% are male.

So far, there have been 21,955 deaths statewide.
In this week alone, Pennsylvania has seen 805 deaths, with 1,237 reported last week and 2,954 the previous week.
