Erie County Sees Week of 1,089 New COVID-19 Cases
Nine deaths occurred this week, with 178 new cases reported today
On Wednesday, Dec. 2, the office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper reported 178 new positive cases of COVID-19, as well as four new deaths. This brings our cumulative total to 5,798 positive cases. There have been 42,911 negative tests in total, with 1,879 recorded this week, and 2,171 the previous week.
According to the county, there have been 1,089 new positive cases in the past week, with an average of more than 155 cases being reported each day. There have been 100 or more new cases reported each day from Nov. 11 onward.
There have been 82 total Erie County deaths reported by the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS), with nine deaths this week.
According to the county, at this time, there are 123 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Erie County, with 14 on ventilators.
Erie County's cumulative case total has more than doubled in three weeks (since Nov. 11). The number of deaths has more than doubled in 14 weeks (since Aug. 26).
Of the cumulative cases, 55% have been female, while 45% have been male.

Today, Pennsylvania saw 8,291 additional positive cases reported, for a total of 375,431.
So far, there have been 9,465 deaths statewide. 2,852,624 patients have tested negative to date.
In the last week, Pennsylvania saw 47,602 new positive cases, 381,839 negative tests, and 1,292 deaths (more than double last week's total of 630).
According to the CDC, the US has a total of 11,300,635 total cases, with 2,325,387 new cases new cases in the last seven days (1,198,099 last week) and 178,395 in the last 24 hours.
The total number of deaths in the US is 269,763, with 10,758 reported in the last week and 2,461 in the last 24 hours.
As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 2,126 positive cases (up 491 this week), with 24 deaths (up 10 this week).
McKean County has 525 positive cases (up 103) and four deaths.
Venango County has 1,050 positive cases (up 257) and nine deaths (up one this week).
Warren County has 333 total positive cases (up 139), and one death.
Ashtabula County's cumulative total is 2,692 positive cases (up 409 this week) and 57 deaths (up three this week).
Chautauqua County has a cumulative total of 1,675 positive cases (up 136) and 19 deaths (up one this week).e
