Erie County Sees 353 New Cases of COVID-19 This Week
One death and 39 new cases were reported today
On Wednesday, April 14, the office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper announced 39 new positive cases of COVID-19 along with one additional death.
Erie County's cumulative total now stands at 19,310 total cases and 455 total deaths.*
In the past week, there have been 353 new cases and one death listed in the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS). On average, there were more than 50 new cases per day last week. This data shows a 29% increase compared to last week.
There have been 67,191 negative tests, with 741 this week and 767 last week.
According to the PA Department of Health, Erie County's positivity rate was 6.6% between April 2 and April 8.
"The current increase in COVID-19 cases is likely driven by the emergence of new mutations and variants, such as the more transmissible UK and California variants, which may be more likely to cause severe disease" noted Emily Shears, Director of Operations for UPMC/Hamot.

Today, Pennsylvania saw 5,730 additional positive cases reported, for a total of 1,087,792 cumulative cases.
So far, there have been 25,522 deaths statewide, with 237 deaths this week (and 192 reported last week).
In the last week, Pennsylvania saw 33,494 new positive cases (29,441 last week and 28,240 the week prior).
So far, 6,600,130 doses of vaccine have been administered in PA, with 802,541 occurring this week.
In the US, 194,791,836 vaccines have been administered, with nearly 23.3 million this week.
According to the CDC, the US has a total of 31,158,087 total cases, with 495,916 new cases in the last seven days. There have been 76,120 new cases in the last 24 hours.
The total number of deaths in the US is 560,576, with 5,345 reported in the last week and 769 in the last 24 hours.
As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 6,814 positive cases (up 262 this week), with 146 deaths (up two).
McKean County has 3,302 positive cases (up 88) and 66 deaths (up one).
Venango County has 3,625 positive cases (up 91) and 90 deaths (no change). 3,625
