Erie County Sees 231 Weekly COVID-19 Cases, Five Deaths

On Wednesday, May 19, the office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper announced 24 new positive cases of COVID-19 along with three additional deaths. 

Erie County's cumulative total now stands at 20,790 total cases and 468 total deaths.  

In the past week, there have been 231 new cases and five deaths listed in the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS). On average, there were 33 new cases per day last week, for a decrease of nearly five cases per day compared to last week's data. The previous week, however, saw only one death to this week's five.

Currently, there are eight patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Erie County, with no patients requiring ventilators.

According to the PA Department of Health, there are 100,726 fully vaccinated residents in Erie County, a 3,558 rise from last week, now accounting for over 37.9% of the population (for a 1.4% increase this week). There are currently 21,718 partially vaccinated residents.

Today, Pennsylvania saw 1,257 additional positive cases reported, for a total of 1,190,102 cumulative cases and 10,851 cases this week.

So far, there have been 26,925 deaths statewide, with 266 deaths this week (and 269 reported last week).

So far, 9,876,905 doses of vaccine have been administered in PA, with 495,807 in the last week.

According to the CDC, there have been 277,290,173 vaccines administered in the US, with more than 12.6 million this week. 

the US has a total of 32,825,625 total cases, with 206,708 new cases in the last seven days. There have been 26,981 new cases in the last 24 hours.  

The total number of deaths in the US is 584,337, with 4,264 reported in the last week and 688 in the last 24 hours. 

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 7,309 positive cases (up 105 this week), with 149 deaths (no change).  

McKean County has 3,706 positive cases (up 55) and 70 deaths (up one).  

Venango County has 3,973 positive cases (up 82) and 94 deaths (no change). 

Warren County has 2,597 total positive cases (up 19), and 102 deaths (no change).
