Erie County Sees Week of 175 New COVID-19 Cases
Weeklong total shows a new swell as numbers climb across the country
As COVID-19 cases around the region and around the country continue to rise, Erie County is certainly no exception. This week saw our second-highest single-day total for new cases on Tuesday, Oct. 28, with two additional days carrying totals over 30.
Wednesday, the office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper reported 33 new positive cases of COVID-19. This brings our cumulative total to 2,087 positive cases. There have been 33,649 negative tests in total.
According to the county, there have been 175 new positive cases in the past week. 89 more cases were reported compared to last week, more than doubling the weekly total, with an average of 25 cases being reported each day.
So far, there have been 1,843 recovered cases, with 12 announced today and 107 this week, for a total of 190 current active cases in Erie County, for an overall increase of 68 active cases this week.
There have been 54 total Erie County deaths reported by the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS), with no additional deaths reported this week.
In the last month, there have been 535 new positive cases, 408 recoveries, and two deaths.
A simple visual comparison of new case numbers indicates that we are likely in a third swell of new cases, with one in late July/early August and one in late May/Early June.
Erie County's cumulative positive case total has more than doubled in 12 weeks. The amount of deaths reported has doubled more than 11 weeks.
Of the cumulative cases, 56% are female and 44% are male.

State, Local, and National Statistics
Today, Pennsylvania saw 2,751 additional positive cases reported, for a total of 198,446. So far, there have been 198,446 deaths statewide. 2,254,523 patients have tested negative to date. In the last week, Pennsylvania saw 12,149 new positive cases, 86,987 negative tests, and 134 deaths.
According to the CDC, the US has a total of 8,752,794 total cases, with 503,783 new cases in the last seven days and 72,183 in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the US is 225,985, with 5,623 reported in the last week and 901 in the last 24 hours.
As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 523 positive cases (up 106 this week), with three deaths. McKean County has 136 positive cases (up 34) and two deaths. Venango County has 260 positive cases (up 73) and one death. Warren County has 66 total positive cases (up six), and one death.
Ashtabula County's cumulative total is 790 positive cases (up 69 this week) and 48 deaths (no change). Chautauqua County has a cumulative total of 904 positive cases (up 83) and 13 deaths (no change).
