Erie County Reports New Cases, Warns of Variants
Dahlkemper returns with televised COVID-19 update
On Wednesday, June 23, the office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper reported five new positive cases of COVID-19, returning with a live video conference at WQLN studios.
Dahlkemper warned that "while our daily case numbers have been low recently, it's important to stay vigilant to protect our entire community." She mentioned the spread of variants, specifically the Delta Variant, and stressed the need for preparedness when it inevitably comes to Erie County. Later in the broadcast, Erie County Department of Health Director Melissa Lyon reiterated the danger of the Delta Variant in particular.
Erie County's cumulative total now stands at 476 total deaths – for a rise of 4 deaths in two weeks.
According to the PA Department of Health, there are 21,208 cumulative positive cases of COVID-19 in Erie County (a rise of 29 cases since our report last week).
There are now 119,779 fully vaccinated residents in Erie County, a 2,826 rise from last week, now accounting for nearly 45% of the entire population, for a 1.4% increase this week. There are currently 17,683 partially vaccinated residents.
