Erie County Reports 4,162 New COVID-19 Cases in a Single Week
An average of 594 new cases per day were reported this week including two days with all-time high numbers
In the last week, there have been 2,970 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Erie County According to the PA Department of Health, a further skyrocket from last week with 2,970 new cases reported the previous week, compared to 1,080 the week prior, and 774 the week before that.
Over the last seven days, there has been an average of nearly 594 cases per day (a per-day decrease of more than 170 over last week). For the second week in a row now, on average, every single day this week saw more new cases than any other day since the pandemic began (aside from Dec. 31, 2021, which saw 626 new cases).
Saturday, Jan. 8 saw a record-breaking total of 909 new cases reported in a single day. The day prior also recorded 890 new cases, as the second-highest number seen in a single day.
The number of cumulative cases in Erie County is now 47,971, according to both the state and county Department of Health. The PA Health Department has the total number of COVID-19 deaths at 648, with 11 occurring this week. The Erie County Department of Health lists a total of 685 deaths, with 26 occurring this week.
As of now, there are 150,663 Erie County residents who have been fully vaccinated (up 969 from last week), with 24,442 having received their first dose (up 658), and 64,427 who have received a booster shot (up 2,548).
