COVID-19 Case Rates Continue to Rise

The PA Health Department has the total number of COVID-19 deaths at 760 with one reported this week. The Erie County Department of Health lists a total of 798 deaths, with none reported this week. 

The number of cumulative cases in Erie County is now 58,218, according to the PA Department of Health.

In the last week, there have been 471 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Erie County According to the PA Department of Health, with 220 cases reported last week, 220 the week prior, and 107 the week before that. 

Over the last seven days, there has been an average of more than 67 cases per day (and an increase of 28 per day compared to last week). 

Weekly reported cases in Erie, Crawford, Venango, and Warren counties have more than doubled in the last seven days. 

These totals, however, are only a fraction of the cases compared to January of this year.

These numbers do not include individuals who have tested positive via at-home testing kits, and only reflects the numbers of officially reported cases. 

There are currently 22 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Erie County, with one patient currently requiring the use of a ventilator.

As of now, there are 158,054 Erie County residents who have been fully vaccinated (up 318 from last week), with 23,800 having received their first dose (down 108), and 79,298 who have received a booster shot (up 273).

State, Local, and National Statistics

Pennsylvania now has 2,849,663  cases of COVID-19, for a weekly increase of 21,781and 14,928 last week. 

So far, there have been 44,733 deaths statewide, with 81 occurring this week, and 83 last week. 

According to the CDC, the US has a total of 81,940,493 cases. There have been 98,354 new cases in the last 24 hours, and 547,657 cases in the last 7 days. 

The total number of deaths in the US is 995,747, with 356 in the last 24 hours, and 2,406 in the last week.

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 20,080 positive cases (up 134 since last week), with 320 deaths (up two this week). 

McKean County has 8,298 total positive cases (up 53) and 141 deaths (no change this week). 

Venango County has 11,327 total positive cases (up 79) and 241 deaths (up one this week). 

Warren County has 7,506 total positive cases (up 60), and 212 deaths (no change this week).
