13 COVID-19 Deaths Reported Today, 1551 New Cases This Week

In the last week, there have been 1,551 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Erie County According to the PA Department of Health, with 1,206 new cases reported the previous week, with 1,682 the week prior, and 1,450 the week before that. 

The number of cumulative cases in Erie County is now 37,491. The PA Health Department has the total number of COVID-19 deaths at 566, with 19 occurring this week. The Erie County Department of Health lists a total of 593 deaths, with 22 occurring this week. 

On Wednesday, Dec. 8, there were 13 deaths reported by the Erie County Department of Health. The PA Department of Health insofar recorded no prior single-day total that high.

On Wednesday, Dec. 1, 339 new cases were reported, making that the largest single-day total recorded since the pandemic began. 

Over the last seven days, there has been an average of nearly 221 cases per day (a per-day increase of nearly 50 over last week).

As of now, there are 145,191 Erie County residents who have been fully vaccinated, with 21,433 having received their first dose, and 48,358 who have received a booster shot.

This week, Pennsylvania saw 55,227 additional positive cases reported, for a total of  1,799,753 cumulative cases. 

So far, there have been 34,198  deaths statewide (677 this week). 

On Dec. 3, the PA Department of Health Twitter account ceased their daily COVID-19 update, which had been ongoing since the spring of 2020. 

According to the CDC, the US has a total of 49,322,567 total cases. There have been 119,895 new cases in the last 24 hours, and 822,416 cases in the last 7 days.

The total number of deaths in the US is 788,903, with 1,780in the last 24 hours. 

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 13,354 positive cases (up 622 since last week), with 230 deaths (up 22 from last week). 

McKean County has 6,009 total positive cases (up 136) and 107 deaths (up one). 

Venango County has 8,379 total positive cases (up 359) and 178 deaths (up eight). 

Warren County has 5,285total positive cases (up 156), and 165 deaths (up seven).
